Lake & Leesburg Firefighters Arrive To Another Working House Fire on Sunday

Leesburg, FL – Lake County Firefighters and Leesburg Firefighters encountered yet another house fire on Sunday. This is the 10^th blaze to break out in just under two weeks in Lake County.

9-1-1- calls came in just after 5PM on Sunday with reports of smoke coming from the roof of the house. Firefighters from Leesburg arrived within 5 minutes to find fire shooting from the roof of the house on Velma Terrace in the unincorporated Leesburg area. Lake County and Leesburg firefighters worked for 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

“The initial cause of the fire points to a pot left on the stove” explains Lt. Brian Gamble, Vice President of the Professional Firefighters of Lake County. “The homeowner had left and gone to the store and accidentally left a pot unattended.”

Two dogs escaped the flames and smoke and no one was injured from the fire. “Firefighters were able to get a quick knock down on the fire and save the majority of the home. First arriving firefighters top priority was search and rescue when they arrived. We had several cars in the drive way but no one could confirm if anyone was home or not” Gamble states. This house fire marks the 10^th house fire in just under 14 days. “Lake County Firefighters respond to a fire about every 12 hours on average. However, it seems these past 14 days have been busier than normal. Fortunately no one has been hurt or killed during this outbreak of fires”.

Firefighters from Lake County, Leesburg, and Fruitland Park responded to the house fire.
