Lake County Firefighters Encounter Fully Involved Barn Fire in Sorrento |
|
Sorrento, FL – Fire quickly consumed a large barn on Thoroughbred Trail in Sorrento on Sunday afternoon, and spread into a fast moving brush fire. Lake County Firefighters arrived in time to protect surrounding houses, a boat, vehicles and a tractor. “Our first truck arrived with two firefighters and found the barn well involved. They had to protect the other structures with the resources and manpower they had”, explains Lt. Brian Gamble, Vice President of the Professional Firefighters of Lake County. “Not only did we have limited resources, the building was well involved and the temperature outside was over 90 degrees today, leading to rapid exhaustion of the crews on scene.” Two firefighters were treated on the scene for dehydration. A citizen was transported to the hospital with burns to the feet.
Dry conditions contributed to several brush fires around the county on Sunday as well. “That is the fifth building destroyed by fire this week in Lake County” states Gamble. Four other structures were consumed by a brush fire in Paisley earlier this week. “We have dry conditions that are susceptible to brush fires right now in Lake County. We urge everyone to be careful when burning. It is easy for fires to get out of control when it is so dry out”.
