Commissioner Josh Blake Spends a Day as a Firefighter

Leesburg, FL - Lake County Commissioner Josh Blake spent the day with Lake County Firefighters and joined the action. Commissioner Blake learned what firefighters are tasked to do day in and day out and shared in some of the tasks.

Lt. Brian Gamble, President of the Professional Firefighters of Lake County, said "It was great to have a commissioner come out and learn first hand what we do and why. He received a good understanding of the toughness of the job."

The Commissioner pulled fire hose from the fire truck, performed a forcible entry on a door and a then searched a smokey building for rescue of a trapped victim inside. "He said his eyes were opened to the tasks that are required of the firefighters and he learned a lot. He also had a better understanding of the manpower requirements needed to do the job properly and effeciently" Gamble stated.

After the Commissioner participated in a scenario, firefighters completed several other tasks such as rescuing a victim from a second floor of a house.

Lake County Firefighters serve over 1,000 square miles of Lake County responding to over 15,000 calls a year for service.
